Artificial Turf FAQs for The Woodlands, TX
Common Questions About Artificial Turf Installation
What Would You Like to Know?
Do I still need to water, mow or fertilize?
No. Artificial turf needs no watering to stay alive, no mowing and no fertilizer, and there is no chinch bug or brown patch treatment to schedule. Upkeep is brushing the fibers upright in high traffic areas, clearing leaves and pine needles, and an occasional rinse.
Does my Turf need upkeep or maintenance?
You need to clean your turf by removing the debris by using a leaf blower. We also recommend using an anti-bacterial, odor-killing cleanser like OxyTurf to knock out odors without exposing your kids or pets to harsh chemicals.
Weather plays a part in planning an install, and we cover the best time to install turf in The Woodlands separately.
Is Artificial Grass better than real grass?
Artificial grass is better than natural grass in terms of maintenance. It doesn’t require watering, mowing, or trimming, which saves you time and money in the long run. Plus, it won’t attract bugs and other pests, and there’s no mud or dirt for you to accidentally track into your home.
There is more detail on the trade-offs in our guide to what to consider before installing artificial turf.
Can artificial turf go over my existing St. Augustine lawn?
Not directly on top of it. The existing grass and some of the soil beneath it are removed first, then the area is graded and a proper base is built before any turf is laid. Skipping that step is what causes settling, low spots and drainage problems later.
Does artificial turf drain during heavy Gulf Coast rain?
Yes, and that is a design decision rather than a lucky accident. Drainage is engineered into the base before the turf goes down, because heavy rain is normal here. It is the part of the job you cannot see and the part that decides how the yard performs in year three.
Does artificial turf get hot in a Texas summer?
Any surface in full sun gets warmer than shaded natural grass, and artificial turf is no exception. The turf we install uses UV inhibiting pigments designed to keep the surface cooler than untreated synthetic grass. A quick rinse, some shade over the most used area, and using the yard in the morning or evening handle the rest.
Will artificial turf hold dog odor?
Not when it is installed properly. The base is built to drain, so urine passes through rather than sitting in the surface, and a periodic rinse keeps it fresh. This is one of the main reasons dog owners switch, along with no more muddy paws and no more yellow burn spots.
What is Artificial Grass Infill?
Infill is the filler material used to weigh down turf and make the blades stand up straight. This creates a more natural, less matted look. But infill is essential for more than just looks! Infill protects the lower layer of your turf where the blades connect to the backing sheet.
